MEDIHEAL Collagen Capsule Patch: Retinol, Vitamin C or PDRN?
By URICOSME Editor

Sometimes the skin under your eyes or around your mouth still feels dry after you have applied cream to your whole face. Yet putting on a full sheet mask every time can feel like a chore. MEDIHEAL Collagen Capsule Patches are gel patches you can reach for when a small area needs extra attention.
There are three main options. Consider Retinol if wrinkles and firmness are your concern, Vitamin C for dullness and dark spots, or PDRN if you want to address both firmness and dullness. The names may sound similar, but each highlights different ingredients and skin concerns.
They are not just for under the eyes

Each curved patch has a broad section that tapers into a narrow tail. You can place it along the under-eye area or turn it to fit areas such as the mouth, forehead or neck. Unlike a full-face mask, it lets you choose exactly where to place it.
“Capsule” does not mean you need to mix in a separate ampoule. The brand describes a formula that encloses ingredients such as retinol or vitamin C in oil capsules. Simply lift out a patch with the included spatula and apply it. There is no need to rub the surface to burst the capsules.
These gel patches also serve a different purpose from toner pads. Leave them on the skin for a while, remove them, then pat in the remaining serum. They are not intended for wiping your face like a cotton pad.
How the three types differ
Retinol: for concerns about wrinkles and firmness around the eyes and mouth

The Retinol type is described as targeting wrinkles and firmness. It contains retinol and adenosine, alongside glycerin, panthenol and allantoin. If fine lines under your eyes or around your mouth catch your attention whenever you apply makeup, this is an option worth looking at for targeted care.
Still, the word “retinol” alone does not mean you should expect the same strength as a high-concentration retinol serum. The presence of an ingredient is separate from how the finished product feels and performs. You can find the ingredients and product details in MEDIHEAL’s capsule patch information.
Vitamin C: for dull-looking skin and dark spots

The Vitamin C type focuses on brightening and dark spots. It includes ascorbic acid, several vitamin C derivatives and glutathione. Another ingredient worth noticing is niacinamide. The official listing states 20,000 ppm, or 2%; this figure refers to niacinamide, not vitamin C.
Rather than thinking of it as a patch built around vitamin C alone, it helps to see it as a combination of ingredients for skin-tone care. It is marketed in Korea as a functional cosmetic for brightening and wrinkle improvement, but it is not makeup that instantly conceals dark spots when you remove it. See the official Vitamin C product information for the ingredient details.
PDRN: for firmness and dullness together

The PDRN type is introduced as a “Peptide Multi Solution.” Its ingredients include sodium DNA, several peptides and collagen extract, as well as hyaluronic acid-related ingredients and panthenol. The brand positions it for both firmness and skin-tone concerns, so it is worth comparing if you do not want to focus on just one.
A longer list of ingredients does not automatically make it the strongest of the three. It is more useful to consider the PDRN formula in terms of moisturizing and conditioning the skin. Directions and ingredients are available in the official PDRN product information.
Apply after toner, then finish with cream
If the patches slip or your skincare pills after removing them, check whether too much of the product you applied beforehand is still sitting on your skin. The brand recommends letting toner or a lightweight serum absorb fully before applying the patches, then finishing with moisturizer afterward.
- After cleansing, use toner or another lightweight product to prep your skin and let it absorb fully.
- Use the included spatula to lift out a patch and place it under your eye or on the area you want to care for. Either side of the patch can face your skin.
- Remove it after the time stated on the packaging you received. The official product specifications and FAQ advise 20–30 minutes, while some illustrated directions say 10–20 minutes, so check your packaging first.
- Gently pat in the remaining serum, then finish with cream or another moisturizer.
Keeping them on longer is not the goal. The official FAQ also says you can shorten the time to 10–15 minutes if your skin feels dry. If you notice stinging or redness, remove the patches rather than waiting for the time to be up. When using them under the eyes, position them so that neither the patch nor its contents gets into your eyes.
Store them properly to keep the remaining patches moist
Use a patch as soon as you take it out, before it dries. Do not put a used patch back in the container or reuse it. After taking out what you need, close both the inner protective cover and the outer lid securely. A quick check that the lid is properly closed helps protect the patches left inside.
It may be tempting to refrigerate them for a cooling feel, but the brand recommends room-temperature storage because refrigeration can change the formula. Keep the container out of direct sunlight.
If you are sensitive to fragrance ingredients, check the full ingredient list when choosing a type. Retinol and Vitamin C contain oils such as lavender oil and Pelargonium graveolens flower oil, while PDRN contains damask rose flower oil. Checking for ingredients that have not suited your skin in the past is more useful than choosing by the product name alone.
Start by choosing one area and one concern you want to focus on. Pick the type that fits, then get used to applying it after toner and letting the remaining serum absorb fully. That makes it easier to fit the patches into your usual skincare routine.
