Key ingredients

• NiacinamideEWG 1

  A form of vitamin B3 that acts on the step where melanin transfers into skin cells, which is the basis for its use in tone-evening products. Research also covers barrier lipid production and oil control, giving it unusually broad application. In Korea it is a listed brightening functional ingredient, commonly at 2 to 5 percent.

• Glycerin

  The most widely used humectant in skincare, drawing water toward the skin and holding it in the upper layers. Its interaction with the skin's own water channels has been studied for decades, and it is mild enough to appear across a very wide concentration range. At high levels it turns tacky, so formulas usually pair it with lighter humectants.

• PanthenolEWG 1

  A precursor to vitamin B5 that converts to pantothenic acid once absorbed.
